Autism spectrum disorder (ASD), is a group of developmental disabilities. Central to autism is severe language impairment. Children have difficulty initiating conversations, remembering words and taking conversational turns.
Many autistic children enjoy music and can sing. My goal is to stimulate speech through this enjoyment of music. I draw on the rich repertoire of children's songs and singing games. This gets their attention in a non-threatening way and encourages the child to speak.
